Emery Family
This website is a genealogy database of documents, photos, and information about the Emery family. The family descends from Henry R. H. Emery (1816-1894) and Susan A. Brown (1829-1897). Henry was born in Staffordshire, England and came to the United States in the 1840s where he married Susan in New Jersey in 1849. The family moved to Michigan about 1855 and then to Dakota Territory about 1865, where they worked as ranchers and cowboys. The family eventually lived in Gregory County, which was then part of the Rosebud Indian Reservation. Henry and Susan were the parents of thirteen children, four of whom married Lakota women. Many descendants still live in South Dakota today.

To all my Emery relatives, I send greetings. When my parents split up, my Grandfather James Eugene Emery raised me. His father was Robert Emery, Sr. and his mother was Mary Jane McLean Emery. His dad is buried in White River and his Mother at St. Francis. Grandpa used to tell me that he spoke Lakota to his mother and grandmother, English to his Dad and Gaelic to his Highlander Grandfather Alex McLean.

Unfortunately, I lost the census records when my computer crashed last year. I am hoping to get back onto Ancestry.com soon and download these images again, and add them back to the site.

Jimmy, would love to see Clarence and Nellie Emery in the 1932 Pine Ridge Census report if you can get that up and running again. I am trying to research Nellie (Young) Emery's ancestry. Thanks, Sharon

Thank you!!! I was driving myself nuts trying to figure out what her name really was. I am curious if you have more info about her and/or her parents. The Native American side of my heritage has always been interesting to me and would love to find out as much as I can about it. Thanks.
